Dear Me, I Love You
Love. Such a powerful word. A word that means hope and unity and beauty for some, yet can bring so much fear to others. Love often brings us to a place of pure vulnerability. That can be terrifying. This is why your relationship with yourself is so important. It is the groundwork that sets the tone for literally everything in your life.
Today's society celebrates love in relationships, but what about those who aren't in relationships? I was hanging out with one of my friends this week and we happened to be watching reruns of Sex in the City. It was the episode where Carrie had to take off her Manolo Blahnik shoes for a party, and they were stolen. Long story short, she asked her friend to reimburse her for the loss, and her friend tried to shame her for wasting her money such an expensive pair of shoes and doesn't want to pay for them. Carrie then adds up all of the money she spent on her friend through birthdays, bridal gifts, baby shower gifts, etc, and the total ended up being much more than $485. So Carrie decides to celebrate herself by announcing her marriage to herself, registers herself at Manolo Blahnik, and sends her friend her registry. (Spoiler - She gets her shoes back.)
More of this, please. More celebration of being content with living your life as you please, whether you're with someone or not. But Carrie had it right. Why don't we ever celebrate the love we have for ourselves?
If you are in a relationship, I pray it is a beautiful one. I wish nothing but the best for you. If you are not in a relationship, you are not alone. And waiting for someone who is worthy of your time is one of the best decisions you can make. I really just want you to remember that your worth does not depend on anyone else. Don't settle, my friends. What is meant for you won't pass you by.
So, in recognition of Valentine's Day, I'd like you to use the list of things you've created that you love about yourself, and write yourself a love letter for Valentine's Day. Whether you are single or in a relationship or a situationship (which no one really deserves to be in), it's time to recognize that your love for you is just as worthy to be celebrated.
We are all made of love. Pure love and pure consciousness. The more we celebrate that love within ourselves, the more love we will attract and the more love we can give.
I love you.
